Project Brief: Design a mixed use scheme in the heart of Chinatown, Birmingham. The scheme was the catalyst to the 26 acre wholesale market redevelopment. This development incorporated a 210 bedroom hotel with an 80 cover restaurant, 191 residential apartments designed in two blocks and 25,000 sq ft of commercial, retail and office space. In the process a Listed Grade 2 building on the site was preserved incorporating a new courtyard, creating a focal point for the development.

The site for the project is strategically positioned within the Chinese Quarter of Birmingham, on the edge of the Wholesale Markets site (which will itself be subject to future redevelopment). The proposals include a new 200 bedroom hotel, 180 apartments, offices, restaurants and bars. The entrances to the offices and residential buildings are focussed around a traditional ‘Shopping Courtyard’, with a listed building at the heart of the scheme.
